BASSS FAQ's

Is it possible to earn the degree without taking classes on campus?
Yes, depending on your current status as a student. UNLV intends to offer sufficient upper division courses for a student to complete a degree, assuming he/she is transferring in approximately 60 from a community college of another university, including a lab science course. We do offer some lower division courses, but not enough to provide the entire degree from UNLV.

What kind of equipment do I have to have?
You will need access to a computer capable of using Netscape 6.0 or above and access to the Internet. Las Vegas students without Internet access at home may use any one of UNLV's computer labs.

What if I don't have a full two years?
You may begin the program anyway. Some lower division General Education classes that you need may be available through UNLV's DE program, others may be available online or through your local community college.

Do I have to be admitted before I can take classes?
No. Any person 18 years of age or older or any person who can present evidence of high school graduation may enroll as a non-admitted student, without official admission, for a maximum of 15 credits per semester. There is no limit to the total number of credits one may earn as a non-admitted student. However, upon admission, no more than 32 undergraduate credits taken as a non-admitted student may be applied toward a bachelor's degree, and no more than 15 graduate credits for a master's degree. Once you decide you want to work toward a degree, it is in your best interest to apply for admission immediately.

What if I don't qualify for admission?
Don't be discouraged. If you are serious about working toward a degree, UNLV provides options for applicants denied admission.

How much does it cost?
Please call DE at (702) 895-0334 for more information.
